Released back in April on Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz imprint, Parker Madicine’s Layers EP is a nostalgic love letter to 1980’s dance music mixed with a modern twist of Detroit and future-beat production. Today we’re bringing you an unreleased dub from one of the EP’s highlights, ‘Carnival Into Space’.
Take the rough and ready funk from its original, the knowing swagger from Inkswell and Temple’s remix, condense this down and you are almost there. The unreleased dub of ‘Carnival Into Space‘ from Parker Madicine’s Layers EP is a little like your cooler older cousin, subtlety reserved yet always with something up their sleeve.
Opening with dirty harmonised horn pads, the track builds slowly, adding claps to a solitary open snare hit and shakers in a continuous fade. A steady head nodding kick and fractional bass finish the foundations for jazzy keys and bit stream synths in this extremely gritty groover.
The Layers EP is available to buy over on the Bastard Jazz Bandcamp page. For more, check out Parker’s own label CT-HI Records who have just released the Contemporary Politix of Dancing compilation EP which you can listen to here.
