UK jazz institution Ronnie Scott’s welcomes Brazilian legend Marcos Valle to the stage on June 28th for a rare appearance in the capital. Beginning his career all the way back in 1963 alongside his brother Paulo Sergio Valle, the Brazilian born singer’s influence stretch beyond his native country to many corners of the globe. The sign of any great artist is often the ability to continually drift in between different genres and continually change one’s sound and direction. Over the course of his career Valle has done that time and time again, mastering countless styles from samba to jazz-funk to bossa nova over the course of a 50-year career.
This constant progression has led Valle to work with a diverse cast of brilliant musicians from Brazil’s own Azymuth, Milton Nascimento and Joao Donato to iconic American artists such as Leon Ware and Dizzy Gillespie. Due to renowned DJ’s such as Gilles Peterson and Theo Parrish (who has incidentally remixed Valles’s work) and World music reissue labels such as Mr Bongo and Far Out Recordings, we’ve been exposed to Valle’s music more than ever before and it’s fair to say that it has undoubtedly been embraced by a younger audience.
It is very rare that you get the chance to see fully-fledged legend and renowned live performer in the intimate confines of one of the world’s most famous bars. Quite simply, on June 28th Marcos Valle is not to be missed.
