Notorious crate-digger and purveyor of rare and forgotten gems, Sam Shepherd (aka Floating Points) announced plans late last year to set up Melodies, an off-shoot of his label Eglo Records. Dedicated to remastering and reissuing buried tracks, the label also aims to celebrate records played by Shepherd at his infamous You’re A Melody nights at the late Plastic People.
The first instalment gives Taxie’s uplifting disco rarity ‘Rock Don’t Stop’ a second wind. Despite its age and its limited original press, the punchy single became an anthem of Shepherd’s Plastic People sets. With its infectious chorus of vocals and cacophony of percussion, the track is taken to new heights with a loopy flute melody, making it even more perfect for the inaugural release on the label.
Coinciding nicely with the recent closure of the beloved Plastic People, Melodies looks set to become an outlet for immortalising special moments made on its legendary dancefloor and between its walls which hosted two decades of exceptional music.
Melodies 001 is out now and can be bought digitally from the Eglo bandcamp. Act fast if you want the vinyl!
