Applications open to become one of Brownswood’s Future Bubblers

In late April, Gilles and the Brownswood team announced the launch of their three year talent discovery and development project, ‘Searching for the Perfect: Beat Future Bubblers’. The project came into materialisation after the Brownswood Music group was confirmed by the Arts Council as one of their National Portfolio Organisations for 2015 to 2018, to help them achieve their goal of ‘great art and culture for all’ across the UK.

Fans of the Gilles’ Worldwide Radio show and the famed Brownswood Bubblers compilation series will be well versed with the Brownswood Family ethos to provide a stage for new and exciting talent in left-field music, and the Future Bubblers programme is very much a natural expansion of this. Rolling out across the UK while focusing each year on key cities outside the capital, it aims to find and then support ten of the UK’s freshest grassroots musicians, rappers and beatmakers, via professional networks, mentorship and profile-raising opportunities.

The programme will work with partners, local networks and organisations in its search for emerging artists and as a Future Bubbler, successful applicants will receive a year of personal mentorship from leading music industry figures. “We really don’t want there to be any reason why someone wouldn’t apply for this opportunity,” says Gilles. “Just because you can’t deal with a 500-word application essay, haven’t got to grips with SoundCloud, or haven’t been given the chance to get in and lay your talent down, doesn’t mean you don’t have that raw musical gift.”

The application process itself continues the promotion of the all inclusive ethos carried by the label with a no-barrier opportunity approach. Providing no less than four ways to apply, the routes available include online submission, a demo hand-in, a “local digs” audition process or nominating somebody you know for the reputable title.

Applications are now open, and close on 7th August. The Future Bubblers will be selected in September and offered a unique and bespoke mentoring opportunity giving them music industry insights, tools and the self-confidence towards achieving their individual artistic ambitions. The Future Bubblers programme will help to unlock doors for artists, promoting creative freedom without commercial pressure and helping artists to develop skills and flourish locally.
