Dimensions Festival continues its growing partnership with CDR for another year of it’s humbly successful Dimension Sounds project and brings on board Mixcloud for its vinyl-only mix competition. Both competitions have run for the last few years allowing the festival to connect with fans across the world, while also building a strong musical community.
Vinyl Mix Project – In association with Mixcloud
Just as the title suggests, this is a mix competition that aims to celebrate and champion the dusty fingered crate-diggers amongst us. With record stores holding a special place in the hearts of many a music fan, Dimensions will also be championing our friends behind the counter; the heads who act as the lifeblood of local music communities across the world and put in the hours to keep our beloved music and club scene alive. This year’s global mix competition will reward the avid DJ and collector who is able to raise eyebrows through demonstrating both technical ability and unique selection all within a 40-60min vinyl only mix. Full prizes are below and for more info on how to get involved check this link.
Prizes will be as follows:
- The first prize winner will bag a set on one of the stages at Dimensions this summer.
- €250 flight contribution to the festival and free camping will be included.
- The runner up will win a ticket to Dimensions this summer.
- Further runner ups will receive records from some of their partner labels.
Dimension Sounds: Soundtrack to Dimensions Festival – In association with CDR
Extending their thread even further, the Dimensions Sounds project returns this year with its two-phased setup, to challenge more keen producers in creating their own festival soundtracks.
Phase 1: The Local Audio phase calls out to all fans, music makers and non-makers around the world to submit recordings of local sounds. This stage will see sounds from all over added to the growing library of recordings (now over 400). Expect anything from a tree frog in Japan to running trains in Detroit.
Phase 2: Producers use the recording library to create an original soundtrack that embodies the festival. Having to use five samples in the process, the producer has then inadvertently collaborated with five people from around the world who they most likely will have never met.
The chosen winner will be flown out to the festival to perform and have their track pressed to vinyl. For full details head here.
This project saw last year’s winner Ben Houghton have his winning production ‘Market House‘ lined up alongside South London talents K15 and FYI Chris in the Dimension Sounds release due to be materialise in wax form for Record Store day.
