As the festival approaches teasingly slowly, the Farr Festival family have eased the pain by throwing a warm-up party at Elephant & Castle’s Corsica Studios, with three special guests that will also be joining the full party in Bygrave Woods the following month.

First up on the bill are the Pender Street Steppers. Comprised of the Canadian Riviera’s cream of the crop, Jack J and Liam Butler, PSS have grown to become loved by the transnational house music scene, as well as torchbearers of the PUU and Mood Hut labels. The perpetual momentum created last year by Jack and Liam’s dusty house grooves has propelled them into 2015, with their most recent The Glass City / Golden Garden release selling one copy a minute on Juno.

Notable producer as well as Rush Hour’s Head of A&R, Young Marco is a musical force to be reckoned with. Farr go onto explain his DJing style as concentrating ‘less on the rare, seminal albums that no-one can find, and more on the awful ones no-one wants to’, which we couldn’t have summarised better. Young Marco’s ability to find the diamond in the rough is quite exceptional, with the addictive character of his own releases capturing all the right angles of house and disco, to sit comfortably in between either genre.

Also on the lineup are East London’s party collective, Thunder (led by Miles Simpson and Joe Apted), who have been DJing and collecting records for over two decades now. Their curated parties in intimate club settings have included impressive bills of electronic impresarios such as Andrés, DJ Sprinkles, Marcellus Pittman, Patrice Scott and Rahaan.

Pender Street Steppers, Young Marco and Thunder all play Farr Festival on Saturday 18th July, on the Ransom Note & Society stage.
