Whenever Four Tet and Floating Points share a bill, you get the feeling that something special is in the works. Although their b2b sets bear little resemblance to their respective outputs, they never fail to put a distinctive mark on proceedings, combining wild genre fluctuations with a coherent and consistent groove throughout.
‘Don’t You Know’ by the Jan Hammer Group epitomises that groove exactly, nestled about halfway through their set at the Benji B Presents Deviation residency at XOYO. Slightly more brooding than the rest of their selection, they mixed in the track to the dancefloor pure and untainted. The track’s early free-flow noodling gave way to a swinging beat that had the crowd swaying as one, hypnotised by the enveloping bass and wistful vocals on offer. Truly a track to get an audience in the palm of the DJ’s hand.
