Lamar Thomas – Feel So Good Inside (Waxist Extended Mix)

Lamar Thomas’ first, and last, major single ‘Feel So Good Inside’ went unnoticed on its release in 1980, lost to the back rooms of record shops.

More than 30 years on, the reggae-tinged disco gem track has sloped back into the limelight as an edit by Waxist, a French vinyl enthusiast from Lyon with a clear preference for obscure disco and funk, especially of the Jamaican variety. Picking out undeservedly forgotten classics and reworking them in light of the dancefloor is a theme that runs throughout Waxist’s work. His label, the excellently-named Red Stripe Disco, is a reflection of this exotic penchant.

Thankfully, his edit doesn’t mess around with the original too much, extending the central breakdown where some funked-up bass takes the lead and the vocal take a backseat. Essentially, Waxist plays the role of curator, reinvigorating a track that, in its time, never fulfilled its potential.
