Premiere: Sonzeira – America Latina (FaltyDL Remix)

When Gilles Peterson set out to record Brasil Bam Bam Bam, he declared it his most ambitious undertaking to date. Unsurprisingly, the album was a resounding success, paying homage to Brazil’s diverse musical culture, but with a newfound sonic relevance to the modern listener. Now that idea has been taken another step further, as Gilles indulges in another of his musical passions by calling on some of his favourite producers to remix the Sonzeira originals.

Mark E, Max Graef and Atjazz are among the names in the credits, while New York resident FaltyDL has also joined the ranks by taking on the charming ‘America Latina’. Without overwhelming elements that made the original so endearing, he’s fleshed out the Patricia Alvi collaboration with a beefed up groove, skeletal framework and warm, floaty pads. A little more robust than the original, there’s still a touch of tenderness on this fresh interpretation from the mercurial producer.
