You could argue that Motor City Drum Ensemble (a.k.a Danilo Plessow) has kept quite a light touring schedule of late, and been an elusive character to witness perform in the club, especially in light of Resident Advisor’s ‘Behind the Beats’ piece that revealed his underlying anxiety condition that stopped him from travelling for a few months. However, this last twelve months have seen him hit new heights as his gig calendar has got heavier, and his reputation as one of the world’s most formidable selectors has turned him into a house music leviathan.
Plessow’s near unmatchable technical ability behind the decks has almost overshadowed the fact that he co-runs his own label, MCDE Recordings. Whilst this has been a venture to mainly help him release his coveted Raw Cuts series (#1 and #2, #3 and #4 and #5 and #6), the roster of artists releasing on MCDE ranges from Marcellus Pittman to French techno icon Laurent Garnier. Whilst Garnier is unfortunately not on the lineup, to see a full MCDE Recordings night brought to London’s Oval Space is not only a first, but a chance to experience some of the best in the gameY.
The bill includes Motor City Drum Ensemble himself, and fellow label co-founder Pablo Valentino. They are subsequently joined by Detroit legend and Plessow’s long time champion, Mike Huckaby, who recently joined the MCDE Recordings family with a stellar remix of ‘Raw Cuts’. Straight out of Brooklyn USA, GE-OLOGY will also be spinning some records. A relative unknown to most, his album comes out in the next few months on Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature imprint, and will be bringing his unique blend of beat driven, jazz-infused house to Oval Space. It’s going to be a night to remember.
