Following an exquisite release with Gaussian Curve late last year, Jonny Nash seems to have kept the creative juices flowing in a somewhat prolific manner. Exit Strategies becomes his second release this calendar year after the Phantom Actors EP in late January, which additionally served as the inaugural of his new label Melody As Truth.
Exit Strategies is as simple and beautiful as the album artwork that houses it. Nash uses loops and effects to perfection, creating music that will soften any mental tension with a trademark hazy guitar leading the way. Our favourite strategy on the LP is the seventh, which, along with flashes of brief Pink Floyd reminiscence, seems to perfectly convey that moment when fear and acceptance are in harmony as you face big changes. A slightly fast yet steady heartbeat depicted by the drums is kept in check by the calm rational mind of the guitar.
