Since Bucharest’s Khidja emerged on the scene early last year with their Balearic take on Middle Eastern-tinged electronics, there have been a host of artists such as Juju & Jordash and Timothy Fairplay queuing up to remix their work. Now comes Phillip Lauer’s turn to put his own spin on the Romanian duo’s latest masterwork, ‘Looki’.
By utilising a gentle feminine vocal, atmospheric Italo synths and subtle tribal percussion to fine effect, Lauer transforms Khidja’s yacht-rock original into a peak time dancefloor epic, dripping with tension, emotion and beauty. Dance music as its most transcendental.
