With so much trap-infused hip-hop dominating the Chicago scene in the last few years, it’s always a breath of fresh air to hear the more melodic side of the genre poking its head above ground. Alongside Chicago’s fast-rising elite (Mick Jenkins, Jean Deaux, Noname Gypsy) comes Illinois-based rapper/producer/singer Kweku Collins, championing a more vocal-driven hip-hop/R&B sound with his Worlds Away EP.
Kweku’s ‘sing-rap’ style paired with exotic home-made beats has us immediately drawing comparisons with Frank Ocean, Raury and Chance The Rapper, not exactly a bad thing for the young artist.
