Get your Sunday morning stomp and shake on to this Afro disco gem from Ghanaian-born Nana Love. ‘Disco Lover’ comes from Disco Documentary Full of Funk, an album crammed with Nana Love material originally recorded in the late 1970s on private pressings and unreleased tapes rediscovered by Barely Breaking Even Music, who boast a diverse set of names in their back catalogue including Hugh Masekela, 4Hero and Dimitri From Paris.
As the track bursts into life strong allusions to the synthesiser-laden sounds of Nigerian funk star come High Chief, William Onyeabor can be heard. Long jazzy running solos from the sax and synth keys amongst catchy vocal lines from Nana are driven by a jumping drum pattern and twanged bass guitar as it’s backbone; a certified winner in any disco boogie set. It’s guaranteed that the whole band jigged along while they played this infectious track.
