Day 10: Cain – Ifrit (Free DL)

Cain is able (see what I did there?) to make you move, even if you’re currently sat at your desk. His productions are infectiously danceable, and his incorporation of intriguing samples really do tingle the spine. The ex-professional bagpipe player blew us away (sorry) with his recent release on Highlife, ‘Nagan/Vatula’, which sold out in Phonica in its first week and was a big hit with DJs like Jackmaster. Like these tracks, his Christmas gift is another sweeping percussive track, which he tells us were employed to drown out some loud, annoying passengers on a train journey. “I wanted to drown them out with drum rhythms, so that is probably why this tune has so much drumming going on.  I love Indian drum sounds [and] I’m a sucker for rave music as well, so I was glad I could fit these kind of synth sounds into the tune”.

Download ‘Ifrit’ from our Bandcamp. It’s pay what you like, with any donations going to Tomorrow’s People, a charity helping the long-term unemployed back to work.

Cain plays live in London tomorrow for Fine Grains, alongside LV and Hector Plimmer. Fine Grains will also be releasing his forthcoming Savan EP, out on 15th December.
