Jack Garratt – The Love You’re Given

We were blown away upon first hearing this, and with the impressive debut Remnants EP already under his belt, we expect the name Jack Garratt to be on the end of many lips in 2015.

‘The Love You’re Given’ sounds like it was meant to be sung with simple backing keys. Such is the detail in the dynamic and melodic nuances from Garratt’s vocals, most notably in the first few lines of the opening verse. This following a sombre introduction of keys and ghostly held notes then leads into the chorus with an extremely laid back kit, letting the purity of Garratt’s falsetto ride effortlessly overhead. The impressive range of elements – from its production to its multi-genre songwriting – mean there is no time for musing on this one. It needs to be felt.
