Dutch by nature and Bristolian by nurture, DJ October (Julian Raymond Smith)’s reputation has always been sky high, and it is something he wishes to maintain as he delves into upcoming uncharted territory. Word of a debut LP to be released next year, and his very first live set is now on the cards. If he hasn’t been busy enough, Julian continues to run the TANSTAAFL imprint (‘There Ain’t No Such Thing as a Free Lunch’) alongside John Osborn. The label has worked with big names in America’s deep house seen, such as Joey Anderson and Appleblim.
In the lead-up to his date at fabriclondon this Saturday, we spoke to DJ October about five of his favourite tracks of the moment, and a little bit about why he digs them.
Revolting Cocks – ‘Attack Ships On Fire’ (Wax Trax)
Wrong but sounds so right.
Gesloten Cirkel – ‘Vader’ (Murder Capitol)
Destroyer of floors.
Joey Anderson – ‘Head Down Arms Buddha Position’ (TANSTAAFL Planets)
Spiritual dancefloor cerebral freak out.
Big Black – ‘Bad Houses’ (Touch and Go)
Winter is here and it’s cold.
In Aeternam Vale – ‘V8’ (Jealous God)
Pure perfection and so simple.
DJ October plays fabriclondon this Saturday (6th Dec) alongside Romania’s RPR Soundsystem and Will Saul’s Aus Music. For more information and tickets, visit the official event page. Thank you to Julian.
