Fresh from designing the set of Hiatus Kaiyote’s specially curated Boiler Room x Red Bull chronicles event comes multi-instrumentalist Kirkis. The hyper-creative beatmaker from Melbourne landed a spot in our Ones To Watch at the beginning of 2013, and has since been signed to one of STW’s top labels, Eglo Records. So, it seems fitting to now close the year with some fresh vibes from the man himself. ‘Magic Rhinestone’ brings a two-minute galactic jaunt through creamy vocals, raspy synths and bongo drums that all-at-once become ambient thanks to Kirkis’ magic hands. As always, progressive jazz theory lurks behind this mini-masterpiece, with melodies that’ll trump any carol singers knocking at your door this month.
