Jay-L commanded attention with his first release, Looking Up Pt. 1 / Try Slung on the brstl imprint, where he strung gauzy melody atop heavily swung drums. Two years on, things have become much more dancefloor focussed. In ‘Together’ the main synth line seems simple, but repeat listening reveals grit and dirt in its cracks. Later on, the breakdown lures the listener into a half-conscious haze before the track slams back into life with a cry of “1! 2! 3! 4!”.
