Soundcloud Selections: Max Graef

After many notable critics hailed his album Rivers of the Red Planet as a musical highlight of 2014, Max Graef has steadily grown into one of electronic music’s key players. Catalysed by his innovative beat-making methods, Graef’s infectious sounds are the polished product of blurring lines between orthodox rules of hip-hop, house, jazz, and more – sometimes by accident, as Graef confessed earlier this week to EB.TV.

Graef plays two big UK dates this weekend; the first is on Friday for London collective comm•une at Dance Tunnel alongside Shanti Celeste and K15, followed by Bristol’s Simple Things Festival on Saturday with Studio 89. In the run-up, Graef has scoured Soundcloud to share his ten tracks of the moment.

Glenn Astro & IMYRMIND – ‘Tanz in Theo’s Beat Bar’ (Box Aus Hols Records)

It’s not a secret that I am the biggest Glenn Astro & IMYRMIND fan. Loved this from the first listen. Watch out for upcoming IMYRMIND solo stuff as well.

Uffe – ‘For a While’ (Tartelet Records)

From the upcoming album Radiodays on Tartelet by my buddy Uffe. I was absolutely blown away! It’s insane how beautiful this song is, and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.

Cuthead – ‘All Night Long’ (Uncanny Valley)

I’ve known this one for quite a while now, and it’s finally out on vinyl which makes it even better.

JTRP – ‘You and Me (Glenn Astro Remix)’ (BEEF Records)

Glenn Astro again… Dope jam!

Am Kinem – ‘I Love You Girl No Doubt (Retrogott Remix)’ (ava. Records)

Out on brother Eckert’s [label] ava. Records. This has been on heavy rotation the last couple of weeks.

Reginald Omas Mamode IV – ‘Understand Me’ (Five Easy Pieces)

Amazing record. Love the whole crew. Quite an inspiration for sure!

Hubert Daviz – ‘Da Brick’ (Closer Records)

Huberto is killer. I am becoming a bigger fan with every beat. Shout outs to Poomin aka Moomin for putting this out!

Henry Wu – ‘Natural Complexion‘ (XVI Records)

Another artist I’ve been playing recently. I hope this comes out on vinyl at some point, if it hasn’t already.

Andy Hart & Max Graef – ‘Fresh Brown Birkenstocks Kicking Your Ass’ (Torben)

Dropping soon via Torben. This started when I visited Andy in Melbourne last year. Finished a couple of weeks ago.

Harry Wolfman & Skinny Love – ‘Celebre (Kickflip Mike Remix)’ (The House of Disco Records)

My brother Kickflip Mike’s first official remix! I’m super proud of him for such a dope production.

Catch Max Graef playing alongside Shanti Celeste and K15 for commune at Dance Tunnel this Friday (24th Oct, £8 tickets available via RA). And calling attention to Bristol heads, as Graef then travels to the wild, wild West the following day (25th Oct) for his Simple Things set with Studio 89 (less than 200 tickets remaining from Crack). Thanks to Max Graef, commune and Hyponik.
