If you save any date in Bristol this winter make sure it is this one. Hi-Life Hi-Fi bring Tanzanian born vocalist and percussionist Mim Suleiman along with a seven-piece band to Bristol for a night of afro-disco which is sure to wear holes into your shoes. The former metallurgical technician at The University of Birmingham currently residing in Sheffield, sings mostly in her native Swahili and has been said to indulge audiences with her charismatic stage presence and vibrant energetic performances with non-stop dance. The timely blossoming of her talent has seen Suleiman work with a host of artists including Tony Allen and Amadou and Miriam.
Having released two albums produced by Maurice Fulton on his very own Bubble Tease Communications, the collaboration has seen Mim hone in on an effective fusion of traditional African music at its roots with electronic house and disco vibes driving the groove. Expect jerking, stomping and a whole manner of shapes as the crowd is captured by her Tanzanian dub disco sound.
Mim will also be joined on the night by Bass Clef live. This set will be strapped with live trombone and endless rhythms and samples to keep you dancing to the afrobeat, kuduro, bass and UK funky mesh he creates before your eyes. The Hi-Life Hi-Fi DJs round off a night that is sure to keep the cold away.
