Alfresco Disco have been known for some of the best parties in Bristol and the Austrian Alps, but are also developing a name for themselves as a label. Their second releases is a V/A from some local producers and we’re delighted to premiere the full stream of J. Morrison‘s effort, also part of the Bristol party and label Crazylegs.
Drawing on influences from African and Latin rhythms, ‘Some Fella’ grips you from the start, with a reassuring kick-drum, off-beat panting and some bongo rhythms. Slowly, the melody and vocals are filtered until you’re hit with that familiar trumpet fanfare of Fela Kuti’s – ‘Water Get No Enemy’. Elsewhere on the EP, each of the other effort have a different take on bringing you joy: disco-infused ‘Dance On’ from Seka, the sleazy ‘In Deep’ by Matt Dirt and a synthy ‘Piano Cut’ by Summits. This EP will be bringing summer to a great many sets this winter.
Maximum Joy EP is out 20th October on Alfresco Disco, available to pre-order from Juno. We’ve got a Label Spotlight mix and interview on the way from Alfresco Disco so keep an eye out!
