When: 12th September
Where: Village Underground, London

This month sees a new concept hit London in the form of a candlelit techno party called Superstition. This is just one in a line of events that are being putting on at Village Underground over the coming months focussing on techno, alongside their Klockworks showcase with Black Atlantic last month.

Superstition have invited Marcel Fengler, the Berghain main room regular, to play a slightly extended set while revellers dance in the dark with the help of some candles to make sure they aren’t kissing the wrong person. This type of event wouldn’t be out of place in Berlin, but is rarely done in London. It’s a brave step, but one that will really appeal to those that are bored of the flashing lights and lasers that sometimes detract from the techno itself. Fengler has released almost exclusively on Ostgut Ton, Berghain’s in-house label over the last eight years, while also running his own label, Index Marcel Fengler, from 2011.

Alongside Fengler, Clockwork and Avatism will join forces to create CW/A, a live act that they premiered at Sonar Festival. What used to be two members of Clockwork is now just one Italian in the shape of Francesco Leali who, together with compatriot Avatism (aka Thomas Feriero), have been making music for quite some time. The collaboration of CW and A has been fruitful in the studio, but it will be interesting to see how it translates to a live show.

Offering support is Glasgow-born Alex Smoke, who’s dubby, dark but groovy side of techno has found a home on R&S, Soma and Vakant Records. He’ll be joined by Randolph, whose techno-inspired bootlegs and edits have won support from other Berghain residents such as Ben Klock and DVS1.
