For those that don’t yet know the game-changing vibes of 20-years-young North London rapper/actress Little Simz, there’s no better way of being introduced than with the new visuals for her track Bars Simzson – a song taken from her debut EP E.D.G.E slated for release on June 16th.
Whilst there’s been a lot of ruckus in the UK electronic scene (just how we like it), vocal Grime and UK Hip-Hop has taken a slight fallback in 2014. Having said that, there’s them serious cats on the block doing some very innovative things; most notably Hawk House, Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn and of course, Little Simz herself.
As one of the most refreshing urban calling cards in the UK to date, her accomplishments are many. Her freely downloadable 2013 mixtape Black Canvas premiered on Jay Z’s Life+Times blog and she’s already been in the studio with Dizzee Rascal, Solange Knowles protégé Kelela and Joey Bada$$’ beatmaker Chuck Strangers. Not to mention her collaboration with L.A’s finest Soulection members Sango and Waldo on the track Mandarin Oranges, as well as her own fire interpretations of Kendrick Lamar’s Cartoons and Cereal and Earl Sweatshirt’s Hive. She’s also been making links with the T.D.E. crew and recently joined Isaiah Rashad on stage for ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron tour in the UK. In short, this girl is going places. But check it out below and see for yourself:
Be sure to check out her Soundcloud for all her previous mixtapes, and keep your eyes peeled for the debut EP E.D.G.E dropping June 16th over on her Bandcamp page.
