Atlanta does appear to be somewhat of an epicentre for Hip Hop talent these days (Raury, A.ware and Rome Fortune to name but a few), although this story is slightly different. 18-year-old Daye Jack is Atlanta-bred but residing in New York at present, enrolled at NYU studying computer science. He also turned down a Dartmouth soccer scholarship by the way, to make you feel even worse about your own life. Yet his school work hasn’t stopped his musical grind and thank the hell not.
Daye recently made his debut with a 14-track mixtape entitled Hello World; a much welcomed intro into the music blogosphere. What’s unique about Daye (aside from his age) is his multi-faceted mystique. Over the course of Hello World Daye exhibits the same gruff bark of Brooklyn’s Joey Bada$$ (particularly on Weeping Willow) and can even parade the same hybrid ‘sing/rap’ style that abstract Chicago wordsmith Chance the Rapper champions. What’s more is that Daye’s certainly got his own story to tell, and enough time and talent to harness what he’s got into an album we’ll all be talking about.
