Exclusive: Riccio – Lil Boy

Fly By Night Music are a London label we’ve been admiring for a while, as they steadily operate under the radar of the capital’s frantic house scene. With releases so far ranging from the deep to down-tempo, they took a turn towards balearic disco for their sixth release at the end of 2013. Italian maestro Riccio had previously featured on the label with an excellent remix for FBNM003, adding to his already impressive edits under his Supervalue moniker and releases for Bosconi.  Thanks to his longstanding relationship with FBNM owner Lorenzo, Jungle Way EP was snapped up as well, which may just be his strongest work to date. DJ Mag gave it 9.0, describing it as an “outstanding EP” and, in hindsight, the EP’s lead track Lil Boy is one of our favourite tracks of 2013, not to make our end of year list. Part Balearic jam with live drums, part Steely Dan guitar riffs, part instrumental hip-hop and part chopped up soul, Lil Boy is like nothing Riccio or Fly By Night Music have released before. As you can imagine, we’re honoured to be hosting it exclusively on YouTube and Soundcloud.

If, like us, you let the original pressing pass you by, FBNM have re-pressed Jungle Way, available now from their Discogs and Decks.de. As with all releases, it comes in its own its own boutique package; for Jungle Way, this mean royal blue vinyl and hand-stamped letter press sleeve.

Also big ups to Admin, who’s post last year put us onto this great label.
