XVI Records were responsible for one of our favourite EPs last year from Yumi and the Weather. We weren’t the only ones that went stir crazy for it, and bouncing back off that success they’re back with a release from one of their original members, Henry Wu. The South London beatmaker is closely associated with some other STW favourites including Al Dobson Jr, Reginald Omas Mamode IV, Mo Kolours, Tenderlonious and Jeen Bassa, who he recently teamed up with the latter on a limited edition vinyl EP, due out on 22a. His first outing for XVI was a contribution on their VA debut release with the spaced out 9 Bit Stoners. Now he’s back with his own EP, titled Natural Complexion and we’re delighted to be hosting the title track, featuring Tenderlonious. It’s got that same lo-fi, soulful groove of man-of-the-moment Seven Davis Jr, with Henry interweaving his own vocals around the impeccably-arranged rhythms. The fact that John Talabot, Tensnake and Groove Armada are fans is enough in itself!
