Competition: Win 2 tickets to the Red Bull Music Academy Notting Hill Carnival party

When: 26th August
Where: Under the Westway, W10 5TY
More info: Facebook, RBMA

Carnival weekend in London is one of our favourites on the calendar. For two days, one of the city’s most affluent areas opens its streets to a West Indian cultural tradition that has been returning for over forty years. If you’ve been, you’ll need little convincing to go back. If you haven’t, just know it’s like no other experience you’ll ever have: police get down with scantily-clad dancers; the air is thick with the smell of barbecued chicken (and other herbs not used for cooking); and the streets are packed out and closed off, rocking to the beat of sound systems led by old-gamers like Aba-Shanti and Channel One, or newer kids on the block like Digital Soundboy and RBMA.

We were lucky enough to take in RBMA’s Carnival Sound System last year and it really was something to behold. Their unbeatable hospitality returns for a sixth year, with booze all day, and some select entertainers. For the first time ever, the Marley brothers (Damian and Stephen) will be playing Carnival together, accompanied by Disclosure, another family pairing with an exclusive Carnival set. Also in attendance will be MJ Cole b2b Wookie, T. Williams, Christopher EllisXXXY and more. For the full lineup, check out the poster below.

To whet your appetite even more, have a listen to David Rodgian’s set from last year and watch a video of the RBMA sound system at Bristol’s Carnival this year.
