Jono Mccleery – Fire In My Hands

For those of you what don’t know Jono Mccleery, you’ve got something missing in your life. He’s signed to Ninja Tune and we first heard him after Tomorrow was included on their 20th anniversary compilation released in 2010. It’s one of those big impact songs that knocks you back when you first listen. We’re not talking about a bass that rips through you, or an infectious hook. It’s a track that makes you want to stop what you’re doing just so you can fully embrace how soothing it is. Think Fink, meets Sting, meets a bit of James Blake. Since Tomorrow, Jono has released a full length call There Is and now he’s back with a new single, produced by Jamie Woon collaborator Royce Wood Junior. Ninja Tune have got it pretty spot on with their description, so we’ll give them the last words: “a rapid fire, skittering drum beat and blues piano driving a fathoms-deep vocal”.

Fire In My Hands will be out on 6 May through Ninja Tune and can be pre-ordered from their website. While you’re there you can also grab the B-Side Painted Blue for free in exchange for your email address.
