When a track sampling Coldplay’s Yellow dropped in our inbox the other day, courtesy of London producer Rainman, we were a bit sceptical. The majority of tracks that aim big with a sample places extra pressure on the rework and more often than not it doesn’t quite hit the mark. Ifan Dafydd immediately springs to mind as one exception with No Good (sampling Amy Winehouse’s You Know I’m No Good), and now Rainman can be placed nicely alongside. The glitchy, dripping, cosmic sounds of The Stars are a far cry from the Coldplay version but perhaps that’s why it works so well. Rainman tells us his debut EP is being mastered at the moment and we’re excited to hear more work. Go like his Facebook page, to be kept in the loop of it’s free release.
