Day 13: Insanlar – Leleo

Day 13 of our 2019 charity Advent Calendar, in aid of War Child.

Shamanic techno meets Turkish folk from Istanbul duo Insanlar, a hidden cut from the 2011 live recording that spawned their first and most famous work, remixed by Ricardo Villalobos.

“This forgotten bit comes from the same live session at Minimuzikhol from 2011, where the seminal ‘Kime Ne’ was recorded. This one showcases the early chaotic, raw and punkish roots of the band featuring Alican Tezer on the drums and Hogır Göregen on percussions and backing vocals in addition to the usual core duo of Cem Yildiz on baglama and vocals and Baris K on the electronics.

Our featured charity for 2019 is War Childwhose work in post-conflict zones is done a bit differently. They recognise humans need more than just food and shelter to flourish after a war, breaking the cycle that leads to repeated conflicts by giving them purpose, education and cultural enrichment.

The dance floor has long-since been a safe space for the displaced, marginalised and persecuted to find community and expression. Safe Spaces represent the core of War Child’s work, providing vital refuge for young people to play, learn and regain their childhood.

Check the below playlist for all tracks in our Calendar.

Out to Peckham Cuts for mastering the track. Check out our tour of their workshop in 2016 and their Self-Portrait from 2018 (mixed by Medlar).
