Hot on the heels of BCUC’s peerless second album in March, French label Nyami Nyami move the focus from South Africa to Zimbabwe for their next. Bulawayo Harare is a split EP representing the country’s two largest cities on each side with one original and one remix.
Bulawayo pits township legends Bulawayo Kwela against UK producer Danalogue, part of The Comet is Coming and recent contributor to London on Key with Waella’s Choice. Harare is catered for by David Tapfuma, longtime collaborator with one of Zim’s leading singers Stella Chiweshe.
Friend of the label and a South African-born neighbour, Esa supercharges the mbira solo on this ode to the ghettos of the capital, adding a haze of synths and an electro rhythm for a powerful late night moment, as delicate as it is steely.
