Artisan in the deployment of soulful samples, Hanna turns his attention to the gospel roots of American deep house on ‘Merciful Fate’. Taken from his new EP on Atlanta label People of Earth, From The Dark Sky comes in the midst of an unusually busy period for the Cleveland producer. Just four releases came out from 2007-16 under his name but the 18 months since the start of 2017 has seen a whopping eight, including his Bounce EP for Waella’s Choice. On ‘Merciful Fate’ it’s not just the powerful samples that catch the ear but how these moments of impact are cleverly contrasted with negative space; stops and starts with split second samples filling the void and maintaining momentum.
