Our last premiere of the year brings some sunshine on this cold December afternoon. Coming to us via Brussels-Amsterdam imprint Kalahari Oyster Cult, this album has been in the crosshairs of collectors for quite some time. Singapore – a sought-after South African Kwaito reissue from Mpumi – originally came into the world in 1995 on Kariba Records. Produced by Arthur Mafokate, considered by many to be one of the pioneers of Kwaito, our premiere ‘Isilima’ rides an effortlessly foot-tapping rhythm. Melding melodic synths and a smooth saxophone line, it’s spearheaded by Mpumi’s rich vocal which sits atop a call and response African chorus.
