Premiere: SJ Tequilla – Sweet Salt

Only a select few DJs have been bestowed the honour of curating a Trushmix, part of Fett Burger’s hallowed mix series. Fewer still have been asked to do it for a second time. Enter SJ Tequilla, originally from Japan and now residing in Berlin. Trush74 channeled a deep US house mood, while Trush101 read more like a cassette mixtape, casting the net wider from italo into ambient, German accordions into trance and then straight into jazz. Neither selection cared much for mixing, but its a credit to the contents that it didn’t matter, instead letting each groove exhale fully.

Fett Burger the mix host now doubles up as a label host as Freakout Cult – his joint venture with Jayda G – presents the debut SJ Tequilla EP, Conditionel. Picking up where LNS left off with CULT 03, SJT opts for the more spaced out and ethereal realms of house. ‘Sweet Salt’ particularly strikes a chord with its melancholic undertones and faint clips of Robert Downey Jr. prank calling (spotted by an eagle-eyed Discogs dweller).

Conditionel is out now – buy from Phonica and Red Eye.
