Day 19: Loure – Keep It Real

Day 19 of our charity Advent Calendar in aid of The Steve Reid Foundation.

It’s safe to say Melbourne had another great year of solid releases, with both dance and wider offerings that had us in awe. But it’s never too late for another! Thomas Guida is 22 year old Melbourne-based producer Loure (formally Leaks) a late-night blend of house and jazz.

Today we bring you the b-side off his 2-track EP due out in a few weeks. Reminiscent of Chaos in the CBD’s ‘Midnight In Peckham‘, the track opens with timber percussion and broken piano chords before a heady jazz horn line scatters itself in thick mist. The groove builds into dance floor movement with stereo-width arpeggios, rising synth lines and finally a ‘Keep it real son’ sample to seal the deal. Certainly a sun-rise pleaser for next year.

Download ‘Keep It Real’ from our Bandcamp. It’s pay-what-you-like, with all proceeds going to The Steve Reid Foundation, a charity founded by Gilles Peterson that aims to support musicians in dedication to the visionary jazz drummer. Alech is taken from Habibi Funk 004, which you can also buy from Bandcamp.
