Premiere: Ben Houghton – Beta Blocker (Harvey Sutherland Remix)

The launch of Momentary Records sees Melbourne maintain its position on the musical map, with wunderkind Harvey Sutherland sliding in to remix ‘Beta Blocker’ for founder and friend, Ben Houghton.

Skittering hi hats dance over disco claps and a dense kick, the rhythm working up to an abrupt dive for the bassline to enter; a Sutherland signature move that always lands perfectly and reignites the pace. He draws on favoured sounds from his Juno 60, weaving in layers and melodies from his palette to create a resplendent voice, at times reigning in the arrangement to let a particularly fat lead take centre stage.

Don’t be fooled into thinking the remix carries the release alone, a pair of original productions from Ben and an Inkswel interpretation are equally worthy parts of the package, a firm first step for Momentary Records.

Beta Blocker will be released 1st July on digital and vinyl  – pre-order from Bandcamp. Catch Harvey Sutherland on a Europe tour this summer – full dates here.
