Day 10: Nachtbraker – Lekkergaan

Day 10 of our charity Advent Calendar in aid of Help Musicians.

We enter double digits with a gift from the ‘Night Hawk’, Nachtbraker. Debuting on Heist Recordings earlier this year, he continues to flourish as an emerging talent in the booming Dutch house scene. With silky chords and organic, detailed percussion, his productions sit nicely alongside fellow countrymen Fouk and label heads Detroit Swindle.

Packed with plenty of swing, ‘Lekkergaan’ is swept along by a buoyant bassline. Woozy chord stabs blink beneath the beat like a lighthouse through fog, while razor sharp hats pierce through. While the mood is generally light, an extended murky bridge captures a wintery twilight. The cooler sounds entice you to seek warmth in the groove and, when the beat eventually returns, it has everyone wrapped up in it. Here’s some personal insight from Nachtbraker:

“Lekkergaan means ‘feeling nice’ in Dutch but its kinda slang. I made this track about three years ago, and couldn’t find a proper home for it. I do play this track from time to time when I feel like the people are in need of a warm blanket of deepness and groove. For me this track expresses melancholy, love and joy.”

Download ‘Lekkergaan’ our Bandcamp. It’s pay-what-you-like, with all donations going to Help Musicians, a charity that supports musicians in times of crisis.

Nachtbraker – Backstabber EP is out now on Dirt Crew. Listen and buy on Soundcloud.
