Premiere: Sean Khan – Things To Say (Nicola Conte Remix)

Let yourself mellow to a soporific club mover. On this remix of Sean Khan’s ‘Things To Say’, Nicola Conte achieves a sound that falls somewhere between the hypnotic dub techno of Rhythm and Sound, Theivery Corporation’s dark overtones through whirring rhodes and low register bass lines, whilst intently keeping your limbs moving on auto pilot with a 4/4 drum pattern and shimmering percussion. A jumpy bass riff and delicate piano chords appear almost set back, allowing room for classic soulful vocals we come to expect on a Conte production, provided with pleasing dissonance by Diana Martinez. Along with touches of pronounced saxophone from Sean Khan, Conte creates an interesting interpretation of a jazz number in what may be slightly unfamiliar terrain for most fans of his work. But he impressively makes light of the gap between acid jazz and fusion here, and it only gets better with every listen.

‘Things To Say’ is taken from the Sean Khan – Don’t Let the Sun Go Down/Things To Say remix EP, which also includes a remix from 4hero. It will be out 6th October via from Far Out Recordings (pre-order here)
