Exclusive Download: Chesslo Junior – Get A Grip (K15 Remix)

With previous efforts on wotnot, and numerous self-released hip hop bootlegs, Long Hum EP makes Chesslo Junior the first artist, other than Kelpe, to release on his fledgeling label Drut Recordings. During the six months of its production, Chesslo worked in a music library, finding mood-appropriate songs for commercials. Hours sifting through vacant scores of ad music stirred in him a need for a creative antidote in the form of distorted sounds and saturated textures. Thus, Long Hum, as its name suggests, is a thoughtful record that sees Chesslo maturing beyond the 808 swagger of his earlier material and into spacious experiments of beat music.

We’re delighted to bring you an exclusive free download of a track which features on the EP. In the original, the ghostly, harmonised yet distorted vocals are Chesslo’s first attempt to experiment with his own voice and in the remix, K15 tones them down into more melancholy territory. Usually, such a variety of drum patterns in one track –  varying from hip-hop beat to pseudo dubstep drop – would make for a polarising addition to an EP but, in the context of Long Hum, it fits perfectly.

Long Hum (DRUT005) is out 5th May on 12” vinyl and 19th May on digital formats. Pre-order from Chesslo Junior’s Bandcamp and grab the free download for the K15 remix here
