This weekend Stamp The Wax attended the Eastern European music festival Exit, situated in Novi Sad, Serbia. Every year over 20,000 music lovers descend upon the magical Petrovaradin Fortress that overlooks the river Danube to experience some of the most diverse and cutting-edge music the world has to offer.
To give you a bit of context, the festival began in 2000 as a student protest against the Milošević regime and is still a relatively non-corporate event, with cheap food and drink. This fact, along with Serbian hospitality and amazing music has helped Exit Festival become one of the best European music festivals, being visited by 60 million people in more than 60 countries worldwide and amongst the top 10 world festival destinations.
Given how accomplished this track is, it’s hard to believe that Nu-Jazz/Broken Beat producer Christoffer Berg made it back in 2004 when he was just 21.
One of our favourite labels around, Plug Research (home to Exile, Bilal, Boom Clap Bachelors) have ferociously tugged on our ears yet again with the beautifully balmy tones of Experimental duo Sonnymoon. The track Just Before Dawn is stripped-back chill-out music in its purist form, with just simple synth-work and a magical melody. But as the song progresses, it builds and enters new realms of frequency that blew us away when combined with visuals from Gordon Hendrick and Hunter Steinman. The release is part of a free compilation that Plug Research wanted to share with everyone: ‘all brand new music coming out on plug during the spring quarter of 2012’, which you can download for free right here!
…including tracks from Jay Electronica, Little Dragon, Domo Genesis, Sepalcure and many more!
