The double decker of dance music, French producer I:CUBE takes a rare route around town with two new records dropping consecutively. Where else but with Gilb’r and Versatile, the label he’s rarely strayed from since his 1996 debut.
First up is Double Pack, a mini album of tough techno for the label’s 120th, but the subsequent 7″ has especially caught our eye. A prolific but inconspicuous remixer in his own right, I:CUBE invites Abel to take on a track from last year’s OEIL CUBE project. The Red Light Records boss flicks the dial on the quadruple x-rated steam from 33 rpm to 45, lifting the lethargic funk of the original into a oddly euphoric, boogie slow-burner.
