Untitled Gear isn’t a familiar name to most people, a relatively ‘known to the heads’ collective hailing from Saint Petersburg in Russia. With a gracious and tasteful back catalogue under the pseudonym Dices – whose releases on Udacha and wonderful debut album on 12th Isle come as part of a repertoire that couldn’t be recommended more. Their latest release vibrating off the plastic comes via Canada through Project Pablo‘s new imprint SOBO.
‘Just Better’ is a hazy expedition through shuffle stepped drums and filtered basslines, recalling the best work Project Pablo has put out himself in recent month. ‘It’s Wonderful’ follows a similarly reclined approach, but it’s not all so laid back. Title track ‘White Nite’ feels like Legowelt and Marcellus Pittmann got stuck in an elevator and started talking about space. A three-tracker of restrained grooves that surrounds and clings to you with it’s distinct human touches along the way.
