It was nearly three years ago, that we went cheese shopping in Bristol with Tim and Luke to find out the history of their Francophile dance outfit Pardon My French. As they approach their seventh birthday this month, we stop in for a light-hearted catch-up, alongside an hour plus mix, that’s a little more reclined than we’re used to from their parties and radio shows.  Tim and Luke answered these questions separately, so any similar responses is just further sign of their intrinsic understanding and unbreakable bond.

PMF celebrate their 7th birthday this Saturday in Bristol, for a day party at the Old Market Assembly.

Favourite party of 2016 that PMF have played at?

Tim: Crack Boat party @ Love International w/ Ben UFO

Luke: Crack Boat party at Love International. Teeing things up for BUFO was a real honour.

Favourite party of 2016 that PMF have danced at?

T: Can’t remember if Luke was there or not, but Dirtytalk with Gilb’r & Jan Schultze – was an industrial tropic paradise whilst being served vodka mixers by Hells Angels.

L: Dekmantel

Favourite charity shop bargain of 2016? (musical or other)

L: I found some gorgeous beige linen trousers for £2 the other day. They’re very comfortable.

T: A small picture of Wiltshire’s coat of arms

Favourite vinyl purchase of 2016?

T: Maizena Boys EP off of No Hands

L: That Baba Stiltz one on Public Possession. So much so that when Baba Stiltz played our party we tweaked the artwork to include our faces as well as his. We kinda thought people would think we were dicks but we thought it was funny so we did it anyway. Baba liked it too.

Favourite dancefloor accessory of 2016?

L: Bumbag.

Favourite mix of 2016?

T: Naduve’s Rinse FM France Remain mix

L: Peter Leung’s Love International mix is a 2 hour masterclass in Balearic. This is the guy you want selecting records at your afterparty ideally. Me and Tim are actually in the pic on the mix.

Favourite spirit and mixer combination of 2016?

L: Tequila and orange juice

T: Tequila, orange juice

Favourite video of 2016?

L: Frank Ocean – Endless

T: Radiohead’s Daydreaming directed by Paul Thomas Anderson or if you mean viral video thing, I filmed a pretty funny video of some seagulls running on the spot on instagram. I didn’t go viral though. Maybe it can now, @pardonmytim

This mix isn’t quite what we’re used to from PMF. What’s the idea behind it and are there any standout tracks you’d like to shout out?

T: We knew we wanted this mix is a little homage to Tisno (where Love International is in Croatia), so we kick things of the with crickets chirping on the opening of Santana’s Caravanserai album. And Karamika’s ‘Ton 09’ that comes in at 15 mins worked well. I like the way this mix drifts between different parts, with me and Luke not really knowing what was going to happen next. And it’s weird, which is always a good thing.

L: We just wanted to make a really relaxed mix without too many beats, inspired by Love International’s early morning sessions and the first hour of any DJ Harvey set.

PMF celebrates its 7th birthday this month. Apparently the gift ideas for 7th wedding anniversaries are copper, wool, brass or desk sets. Keeping to those rules, what will you both be buying each other to celebrate this momentus milestone?

L: It’s been Tim’s birthday recently so i’ll probably skip the present for this

T: Probably just a £15 B&Q voucher, then… Luke’s a nightmare to buy for

Beyond your 7th birthday, what else is coming up on the horizon for PMF or your other endeavours?

T: More puns, more techno

L: We’ll be back at Simple Things Festival for the 4th time hosting the Colston Hall Terrace with bunch of our friends playing records overlooking Bristol city centre. We’re fucked if it rains though.
