Premiere: Bell Towers – I’m Coming Up

Australian producer Bell Towers has found a comfortable home on Public Possession. He has not released elsewhere since 2013, and the Munich label provides a perfect fit for his leftfield, pop-influenced productions. For his first release of 2016, he has turned to Public Possession once again to release his I’m Coming Up EP, from which we premiere the title track today.

It begins with a rolling, minimal beat, and the sound design is immediately impressive. In the hands of a typical minimal producer, this would be drawn out for 10 minutes, with slight fluctuations providing the musical enrichment. However, this doesn’t chime with Bell Towers’ more poppy approach. Instead, he uses it as a spine on which he throws snatches of strings, cutting across the rhythm like shards of sunlight, with enough melodies to make the song seem wholly satisfactory in its sub six minute playtime.

I’m Coming Up is out 27th June and available to pre-order from Juno. Listen to clips of the EP on Soundcloud. Public Possession will be coming to London soon for our Infusions series – more info coming soon.
