Premiere: riggles – Slick Like Oil

Who is Ken Oath? Wrong question! The more pertinent question is WHAT is Ken Oath, but those who aren’t scrubbed up on their Aussie slang, you’re forgiven. Short for “fucken oath”, which in turn is slang for “sure thing” or “you’re right”, it’s another fine example of a foul-mouthed, but inoffensive Australian colloquialism.

What’s the relevance of all that?  First, Ken Oath is the new label responsible for giving Sydney producer riggles (note the deliberate lower case spelling) his first official release. Second, Australia’s relaxed approach to the English language, that gives birth to phrases like Ken Oath, actually segues quite well into this chiller of a track from, ‘Slick Like Oil’. It typifies the laid back house sound that dominates the four-track VA EP it’s lifted from, also taking inspiration from a hip-hop aesthetic and sample-based masters Paul White and Paul Johnson. We’ll be keeping riggles firmly in our grasp to see where future musical exploits lead him.

The Ken Oath Sample is forthcoming. Follow the label on Soundcloud to be kept in the loop.
