Premiere: Warren Raww – Ross

Despite there being an outrageous amount of creativity spilling out of Melbourne at the minute, that’s not all Australia’s good for when it comes to underground club sounds. Head 400 odd miles north west and you’ll reach Adelaide, home to Babick, Mic Mills, Arthur Miles and the Untzz Rec. gang who are helping create a little pocket of production away from the country’s main hub. Alongside them, we’ve recently been introduced to Warren Raww, thanks to their new release on Manchester imprint Natural Sciences.

Based around a set-up of snyths (namely the Korg Poly 800, Yamaha DX21, Bass Station and Korg Volcas) and a drum machine (Korg ER-1), Ross EP offers up four tracks of “sloshed up, dance floor equipment, broadcast from a busted car stereo via the depths of some hallucinatory jungle rave up.” Fans of Mall Grab and the warmer end of the Lobster Theremin catalogue (DJ Wave and DJ Sonikku) take note. Even Hurfyd finds it “real nice”, which is the lo-fi equivalent of Goldie getting an MBE.

Take a first full listen to ‘Ross’ and jump on that pre-order at Bandcamp. We’re told the record is out 27th April.
