With releases from Nebraska, Gunnar Haslam and Antony Naples, Mister Saturday Night has quietly grown into one of the most formidable and consistent labels in contemporary dance music. If you go out to countless clubs in the country, you will often see some someone rocking a t-shirt or a jumper featuring the imprint’s signature logo. Yet before Naples and co. helped develop MSN into a successful label, it begun as a monthly party thrown by and DJd by Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin, the imprint founders in 2008.
Credited for capturing the dynamic energy and loose atmosphere of legendary clubs like the Loft and Paradise Garage – where the worlds of disco and house, seamlessly rubbed shoulders with post-punk, spiritual jazz and all kinds of weird and wonderful oddities – Mister Saturday Night soon gained a reputation for one of the best parties in not only New York, but the U.S.
On 5th March, regular London hosts Black Atlantic invite Carter and Harkin bring their delectable selection of tunes and narrative flair to the capital as they play a five hour b2b set at the monumental St. John Hackney Church. Mister Saturday Night becomes Mister Saturday for the first time, as the party will be strictly a daytime affair which, according to the duo, will be “full of tasty food so you don’t have to leave for dinner, quality drinks that’ll be easy on the pockets, and a six-point Funktion-One system to keep the audiophiles immersed in the details”. Couple this with two of the best selectors in the business playing in an 18th Century church, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a better party day or night to attend in the capital that month.
