Premiere: Marma Boog – Hypnotizing A Kookaburra (Mood Mix)

Orange Tree Edits are still freshly pressing that juice after five years in the game. The edit-indebted label have come a long way since their first release – a rerub of Afro funk track ‘Pembe’ – one that we in fact had the pleasure of hosting here on STW all those years ago.

Run by Amsterdam-based Irishman Jimmy Rouge, the platform has carved out a reputation for breathing new life into old gems. At the outset OTE concerned itself with reworking music from across the globe, namely unearthed cuts from Africa and Japan. But in more recent years their gaze has widened and with it so has the roster of artists involved, namely Moving Still, Jonny Rock and Marma Boog, the mind behind the label’s next outing.

One of the founders of Pond Life – an imprint that’s hosted releases from Kudo Sol, Steady Income Band and Retromigration – Marma Boog brings us a batch of enchanting, cosmic goodies for OTE’s tenth release. Alongside downtempo acid trip ‘East of Canada’ and a high energy Italo version of our pick ‘Hypnotizing a Kookaburra’, Marma Boog transports us back to the 90s for his Mood Mix: a chugging Balearic groove, littered with psychedelic synths, soft tribal rhythms and lush vocal samples.

OTE010 will be released on Orange Tree Edits.
