Premiere: BSS – Scannen

Suikerplein marks a new chapter in BSS‘ musical journey. Coming out this month, the EP is the debut release from the regenerated project formerly known as Beesmunt Soundsystem, which sees Luigi Vittorio Jansen, one half of the Amsterdam-hailing duo, now steering the ship solo. Prior to becoming a one man band, the pair notched up a sprawling discography linking up with international labels like Hivern Discs, Honey Soundsystem, Church and Notte Brigante, but for this newest venture Luigi is keeping things local, partnering with Dekmantel for the release.

It’s not just the label that upholds the Amsterdam connection though, the entire EP is a homage to his stomping ground. Each track title references different places and spaces from Luigi’s youth, from Westerpark to the neighbourhood of Spaarndammer and a statue of Dutch social anarchist, Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis. Our pick, ‘Scannen’, closes out the EP perfectly, offering a more meditative, cathartic moment than its textural, breaks-driven predecessors, through soaring acid lines and celestial pads.

Suikerplein will be released on 24th January on digital and vinyl.
